Camden propose restricted access to Kidderpore Avenue and Ferncroft Avenue
■ Camden Council just proposed to trial "Healthy School Streets" around St. Luke's Church of England School and St. Margaret’s School. You can read the full proposal below.
■ This street scheme restricts vehicles from using Kidderpore Avenue, Kidderpore Gardens & Ferncroft Avenue between 7:45 am - 9 am and 3 pm 4:15 pm, Monday to Friday during school terms. The map is attached below
■ The proposal aims to reduce carbon emissions and we want to know how you feel about these restrictions. According to the ‘Healthy School Streets Consultation’, there are high traffic volumes throughout the day during school drop-off and pick-up times. Camden Council wants to measure the trial using an Experimental Traffic Order (ETO) “for up to 18 months, at which point a decision would be made whether to make the scheme permanent”. Only resident's, emergency vehicles or parents who's child attend either school with a blue badge are exempt from vehicle restrictions. Other vehicles must use detours or park outside of the restricted area.
■ What do you think? Where others schemes have been trialled the surrounding roads community have expressed concerns about road closures and inconveniences.
■ The surrounding community have expressed concerns about the impact on rat-running and increased congestion on adjoining roads, and the scope of exceptions for residents in the roads directly affected. We are particularly concerned about the impact on Heath Drive, Platts Lane and Briardale Gardens, which parents are likely to use as a replacement drop-off location and also the knock on effect on Hollycroft and Rosecroft.
■ These proposals could also add to the rat-running caused by Sadiq Khan's unilateral imposition of a 20 mph speed limit on Finchley Road
■ As you local Camden Councillors we want to know how you feel. If you feel strongly about this issue and want to share your thoughts, please follow this link. We will keep you informed, and make sure Camden know your opinions.
