Brent Must Stop Asphalt Repairs to Pavements
Bertha Joseph and Sapna Chadha, from Brondesbury Conservatives, are urging Brent Council to stop tearing up flagstones and replacing them with asphalt. This is environmentally harmful, not durable, ugly, and costs more than replacing with existing paving stones.
Brent has ignored all protests and petitions. They refuse to listen to the group coalition of eleven residents’ associations that have come together to form Brent Residents Against Asphalt Pavements (BRAAP). Robin Sharp, joint convenor of BRAAP, said: “The tarmac heaves and cracks, grows moss, looks awful when repaired, radiates heat into the urban environment and is opposed by more than 95 per cent of residents. “They say the policy is cost-driven, but they should be planning for the long term, with sustainability at the fore.”
Brent Labour refused to hear our motion to halt the roll-out of the asphalting programme and return to repairing and replacing the pavement with flags. BRAAP requested a detailed review. Labour refused.
Brent does not care how our area looks, nor gives any thought to the effect of climate change. It fails to consult residents properly and ignores your views when requested. Cutting down healthy trees, clogging our streets with pollution and creating low-traffic neighbourhoods are examples of Brent Labour failing.
