Camden proposes removing all parking on Haverstock Hill — Have your say
Haverstock Hill businesses have told newspapers that Camden Council would put the ‘final nail in their coffin’ if Camden were to follow through with its idea to remove every parking space on a mile-long stretch of Haverstock Hill.
Camden’s plan is to replace the parking spaces with two cycle lanes without public consultation. This will have a big knock-on effect to residents in neighbouring roads. Businesses’ concerns were reported in last week’s Ham & High, which you can read here: www.bit.ly/HaverstockHH
The changes would be wide-ranging and impact many local residents and businesses by removing space for 115 vehicles between Lyndhurst Road/Pond Street and Prince of Wales Road. These would be replaced by a cycle lane on each side of the road.
Camden Council doesn’t want to consult you, but as Camden’s opposition councillors representing most of Haverstock Hill, we want to hear your views so we can stand up for you.
We’ve set up a survey at www.bit.ly/HaverstockParking so we can better represent you.
We’ve provided excerpts from Camden’s plans overleaf, but everything we’ve been told can be read at www.bit.ly/HaverstockDetails
We have grave concerns about the loss of so many spaces, which many residents and businesses rely on. The changes would initially be for 18 months, but could then be made permanent - and at any rate, several businesses have said they could not survive this change for 18 months.
Camden sent us the plan a few days ago and gave us just days to provide comments. We strongly oppose large changes without full consultation with residents and businesses, so we’re immediately asking your views at www.bit.ly/HaverstockParking
Whether or not Camden’s administration consults you, as Camden’s Conservative opposition, we want to reflect your views. As well as these changes, the survey asks about alternative ways to help cycling.
Please fill in the survey so we know what you think, and forward it to anyone who’d be interested. It’s important for residents to be in control of such big changes. That’s always been our approach as Camden Conservative councillors - filling out our survey will help us stand up for you.
The Ham & High updated their coverage of this on 14 October with a headline 'Haverstock Hill: Council warned to heed public opinion over parking cuts'
