For the last 25 years I have been proud and privileged to represent this ward and the residents who live here. At the local elections in May 2014, Cllrs Davidson and Warren were elected alongside myself to make a strong and vocal team of Conservative Councillors representing you in Brondesbury Park.
Many residents have been asking me about the upcoming General Election, and who they should vote for. I’m supporting Simon Marcus, who is the natural choice to represent you in Parliament for Hampstead & Kilburn.
Like me and my fellow Brondesbury Councillors, Simon lives locally. Having known him for many years, I’m happy that he shares my values and a commitment to serving the interests of local residents. If Simon is elected in May it will enable me to be even more effective in working for local residents, as we will have an MP willing to raise your concerns in Westminster.
Whilst Labour keep talking down the people of Brent, Simon works to deliver for them. Ed Miliband wants to raise an annual tax on your home with the ‘Mansion Tax’, Simon will instead work to deliver the following priorities for the people of Brondesbury:
- The best healthcare for your family
- The best schools for our children
- More jobs and independent shops
- More police on our streets
- Cleaner streets and less pollution
These improvements are only possible with a strong economy. Employment is at a record high in Brent and the only way to ensure continued economic growth is to vote for Simon, our Conservative Candidate. The Labour Party thinks that the Government can tax you as much as they like, and you saw the results with Labour’s Great Recession, which left the country bankrupt in 2010. We are only now recovering from that Great Recession thanks to the Conservative-led Government’s long-term economic plan.
As your Conservative Councillors, I along with Cllrs Davidson and Warren recently proposed a budget for Brent that would reduce your council tax by 2.5%, bringing relief to hard-pressed taxpayers; this was the first time a council tax cut has been proposed in decades - naturally, Brent Labour voted against our proposals!
In Brent and across the country, Labour will not stand up for you - Cllrs Warren, Davidson, myself and Simon do, and so I urge you to vote for Simon Marcus on May 7!
Yours Sincerely,
Cllr Carol Shaw
