These results are a tribute to the hardworking NHS staff who work unstintingly to ensure patients always receive world-class care.

Thanks to our long-term economic plan we have been able to increase spending on the NHS, putting a further £12.7 billion into the service during this Parliament. This has meant we now have 9,000 more doctors and 6,000 more nurses working in our NHS and we have committed to continue to increase spending on the NHS in the next Parliament so that every patient can always get the care and support they need. 

You can’t have a strong NHS without a strong economy which means that the only way to secure the future of the NHS is to stick to our long-term economic plan.

Yesterday, Ed Miliband yet again refused to deny that he wanted to ‘weaponise’ the NHS amid continued attacks over Labour’s lack of a plan for the economy and the NHS.

Senior Labour figures are now seeing what the whole country can see – Labour are in chaos. And because Ed Miliband has no plan for the economy, he would leave the NHS in chaos too.

The former Labour Health Secretary Alan Milburn has criticised Labour’s plans for the NHS as ‘a fatal mistake’, the former Defence Secretary John Hutton says the party has nothing to say on the economy and a former Labour health advisor has said Labour’s plans to use a Home Tax to pay for increases in NHS spending don’t add up. His unfunded spending commitments and a lack of an economic plan would bring back economic chaos to Britain.

It’s clear that Ed Miliband just isn’t up to the job of Prime Minister. He would mean chaos for the economy, and chaos for the NHS – taking Britain backwards.
