Camden Conservatives were pleased that Secretary of State, Patrick McLoughlin has now confirmed that the link through Camden Town will be dropped - "Transport secretary Patrick McLoughlin confirms Camden Town section of HS2 project will be axed".
We have fought hard, alongside many other local groups, to raise awareness of the impact of these plans on our community.
Earlier this month went to the Department for Transport to present Patrick McLoughlin with our "Save Camden" petition signed by 43,760 people. This asked him to revise the proposed plans for the HS1-2 link through Camden, as they would cause devastating loss and damage to a wide area if they went ahead.
He has agreed that the plans would have would meant "too many compromises" for people living in Camden and we want to thank each of the tens of thousands of people who signed the petition.
Camden Conservatives will continue to lobby on behalf of local people and local businesses. We know that many are still very worried about the plans for Euston, the impact on air quality in the area and the disruption that will be caused by road closures and traffic movements during construction.
