TfL have a consultation open that proposes to completely scrap the 13 Bus that goes from Golders Green to Aldwych and increase the frequency of the 113 by an additional 4 buses an hour, extending its route to Oxford Circus. The plan would also extend the 139 to Golders Green to pick up some of the diverted passengers. However, by going on TfL’s own timetables a stop along Finchley Road currently gets 25 buses between 8AM and 9AM: 9 82 buses, 9 13 buses and 7 113 buses. Adding 4 113 buses and cutting 9 13 buses means a net loss of 5 buses per hour!
And as the 139 bus goes down the highly congested West End Lane, this isn’t a credible alternative.
Finchley Road is a very busy road and local people need their bus routes to get into the town centre. TfL’s proposed changes would reduce bus frequency at the busiest times. Anyone who takes the 13 bus knows how busy it can get on an average day. Scrapping this bus route and “pushing” the passengers onto an inadequate alternative provision will make morning and evening commuting that much more uncomfortable for residents.
We’re asking you to support our campaign to reject these proposals and save the 13 bus.
