Oliver Cooper, Councillor for Hampstead Town, this weekend petitioned residents at Gail's street party calling on Labour-run Camden Council to restore and re-open Oriel Place Gardens near Hampstead High Street.
The Council has kept the municipal gardens closed on the pretext of preventing anti-social behaviour, but Camden Conservatives are calling for it to be restored and re-opened using money from the sale of nearby Wells Court. Local businesses and residents have agreed to take responsibility for locking the gardens at night, removing the small risk of any anti-social behaviour. This easy solution would allow Oriel Place Gardens to be open for the use and enjoyment of the whole Hampstead community.
Oliver spoke to residents and visitors to Hampstead at the Gail's street party and there was lots of enthusiasm for the campaign to get Camden Council to re-open this valuable resource in the heart of Hampstead.
