The O2 – Co■ Labour run Camden Council has approved plans to redevelop the O2 Centre.
This will mean the demolition the O2 and Homebase to build a number of 16-storey tower blocks. Whilst proposals by Landsec, the developer, may initially sound promising, it is becoming apparent that these plans are not all that they seem.
Labour Plans - Most of the homes ‘Build to Private Rent.’ Landsec will be private landlord renting out flats at a market rent. Tenants won't have the opportunity to own their own home or have a secure tenancy. This will create an area of transience a where tenants will never have the chance to be part of the community.
Conservative proposals We feel strongly that the development should include Council homes for social rent and flats for first time buyers.
Labour Plans - The supermarket size will be halved with no car park. We feel that it is important to retain a large supermarket for affordable groceries. This requires a shoppers’ car park.
Labour Plans - Camden want the site car-free - 5000 new residents will not be allowed to park on the site. This will discriminate against working people who require a van or a car for their work.
Conservative proposals We ask that sensible car parking arrangements are put in place.
Labour Plans - Camden will add 5000 more residents, yet the proposals do not address pressures on the current infrastructure.
Conservative proposals We think Camden provide extra services, especially in terms of schooling and healthcare.
The O2 Centre redevelopment presents a fabulous opportunity. It is vital for local residents that all concerned get this right and ensure that a proper, mixed community is created If you have views on these ideas let us know via the opinion survey we are conducting asking you how you would like to see the redevelopment via this link camden.team/O2Future
In the last two years we have spoke with thousands of local residents about these plans. We have listened - people want more local homes and the current car park is a huge waste of land. We want Camden Labour and Landsec to listen to what you told us. They are planning to deliver more homes. But you wanted
Homes to buy
Council homes at social rent
Affordable Supermarket - with shoppers car park
The infrastructure to support it
