Former world karate champion and local Conservative candidate endorses campaign to stop Brent’s latest concrete jungle
Despite widespread concerns from local residents living in Kilburn Square and the neighbouring roads, Brent Council is pressing ahead with its plans to build a 17-storey tower block and five other blocks on the Kilburn Square estate.
Brent has conducted a survey asking several questions, but not whether you want these changes imposed on your community!

The changes will mean:
■ A massive 17-storey tower on the site of the Brondesbury Road Mental Health Centre, overshadowing the surrounding area
■A number of other new housing blocks on the existing Kilburn Square estate, which will NEARLY DOUBLE THE EXISTING FLATS ON SITE (including Sandwood Court)
■The destruction of the current children’s playground
■The loss of current green space and the cutting down of many of the established and mature trees
■The removal of car parking for residents
Brent’s Labour Council has tabled these proposals with limited consultation with existing residents and none with residents in neighbouring roads, who will also be affected by the huge changes.
Brent Conservative candidate for the London Assembly Molly Samuel-Leport MBE went to Kilburn Square to talk to residents. She was horrified by the scale of Labour’s scheme. She added:
“Brent Council’s Kilburn Square plan is typical of recent decisions by Brent Labour to ignore the views of the residents most affected by council decisions. We have seen this with low traffic neighbourhoods - where residents’ concerns have been ignored (report on the reverse) - and now Kilburn Square. If I am elected to represent you on the London Assembly this Thursday, I will work night and day to stop the creation of this new concrete jungle”.

1. You have not been asked your views on a near doubling of population density right outside your home. They plan a 17-storey tower next to the already busy and polluted Kilburn High Road.
2. Will there be more schools, roads, or expanded health facilities to cope? You will be forced to compete for already scarce local resources if these are not addressed.
3. The loss of parking on Kilburn Square means residents will be forced to park in neighbouring roads, having knock-on effects for other residents who can currently park outside their houses.
4. The loss of mature trees, children’s playground and existing space is environmentally concerning and will affect residents’ amenities. The Council needs to explain how its proposed replacements can counter the impact of these losses.
5. The proposed open walkthrough from Kilburn High Road is an antisocial behaviour (ASB) risk - the community has made great strides against ASB, but Brent’s scheme may put this at risk.
