LOCAL CONSERVATIVES HALT CS11 CYCLE SUPERHIGHWAY TO NOWHERE
Westminster and Camden Conservatives have halted City Hall’s plan to halve the capacity of Finchley Road at Swiss Cottage by forcing a judicial review of Cycle Superhighway 11.
TfL’s mad plan – backed by Camden Labour – is to build a 150-metre long ‘cycle superhighway to nowhere’ from one end of the Swiss Cottage gyratory to the other down Avenue Road!
Conservative-run Westminster Council – along with local residents represented by Camden Conservative councillor and barrister Andrew Parkinson – challenged the decision. The works were due to begin on 30th July, but the High Court agreed with residents and agreed to halt the works to hear a judicial review in September.
CS11 would slash Finchley Road’s capacity and force traffic off the A41 and onto local roads: inundating quiet residential streets, and increasing congestion and pollution.
Despite this, Camden Council supports the scheme and that support was quoted by TfL as evidence against the residents’ case.
Kate Fairhurst and the local Conservative team will keep working with local residents and Conservative councillors to save Swiss Cottage from this ill-thought-through plan.
