TRAVIS PERKINS SITE - Labour Camden set to evict major employer in West End Lane
■ Local residents have told us they have a number of concerns about the plans for the the Travis Perkins building at 156 West End Lane, which is being sold by Labour-run Camden Council.
The developer has unveiled plans for 202 flats on the site: in 3 blocks, which will rise to 8 storeys. We have a number of concerns.
■ The design doesn’t fit in with existing properties and would overshadow homes on Lymington Road.
■ We want over 50% of flats to be affordable: unlike at Labour’s Liddell Road tower, where just 4% are.
■ Travis Perkins is a major local employer, but the plan would see these jobs lost.
We will continue to push for more affordable housing, the protection of employment, and appropriate, sustainable development to preserve what’s great about our community.
Despite this local unemployment falls to record low
■ Unemployment has fallen to a new record low across Camden: with almost 3,000 fewer people out of work than in 2010.
The number of West Hampstead and Fortune Green residents having to rely on out-of-work benefits has also hit an all-time low this year. The number has almost halved since 2010: meaning 290 fewer people out of work.
Just one in five new jobs nationally are part-time: far less than the half of jobs that were part-time under Labour.
That’s testament to the hard work of local people and the success of the Conservatives’ economic plan.
