Hampstead’s Conservative councillors have successfully worked to stop a development on Kemplay Road that would change the character of the street and block views of historic Grade- II listed Rosslyn Chapel.
Residents of Kemplay Road contacted Hampstead councillors about their opposition to a proposed development on the street. Cllr Stephen Stark identified a mistake with the applicant’s proposed extension, which would have partially blocked the view of the Grade II-listed Rosslyn Chapel, including the view of the magnificent stained-glass window.
After a long-fought battle, the applicant agreed at the eleventh hour to withdraw the application. Instead the applicant will sit down with residents and Cllr Stark to come up with a design that is in-keeping with the street and preserves the historic view of the chapel.
We want to thank residents for perservering in their campaign to protect Hampstead and acknowledge the applicant for agreeing to work with the community. We back the Hampstead Forum’s proposed Neighbourhood Plan and have made Camden review and update Hampstead’s Conservation Area statement to ensure our area is given maximum protection against unwanted developments. Hampstead’s Conservative councillors are committed to preserving and conserving Hampstead.
While other parties say they’ll protect our heritage, we do something about it!
