As residents are aware, Camden Council has been carrying out re-paving work on Tanza Road. Concern has been raised about the tarmac strip. The tarmac strip was existing but looks quite harsh against the new York stone paving. The local Conservative team have met Camden Council officials on site this past week to discuss options.
We raised the possibility of replacing the tarmac with York stone. Unfortunately, the cost to do this is prohibitively high, at over £80,000. A large quantity of the stone would be required, and it is unlikely to match the York stone that has been laid, meaning that all the stone would need to be lifted, mixed, sorted, and re-laid.
Camden Council have suggested using a bound gravel buff colour to match, as best it can, the York stone. The bound gravel has been used successfully in other areas, such as Downshire Hill and Whitestone Pond.
We have asked for a sample area to be prepared near the top of Tanza Road. It will be available from about 12th April. We hope residents will take a look and let us have your comments. We have allowed two weeks for this mini-consultation and if you think that you need longer, please let us know.
We are committed to ensuring Tanza Road and the whole of Hampstead is as beautiful as possible. If you have further concerns or comments on this or any other issue, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
