Following the resignation of a Labour councillor from Camden Council, there will be a by-election for Gospel Oak on May 4th.
Our candidate, Marx de Morais, launched his campaign this Saturday. Present at the launch were London MEP Charles Tannock and Greater London Assembly member Andrew Boff.
In his first leaflet, Marx writes:
"I was born and raised in East Germany, where my family opposed the Communist regime. I’ve lived in Italy and Germany, but I can’t imagine a better home than Camden.
"I am a writer and food designer, who strongly believes in the values of freedom, individuality, and giving everyone an opportunity to succeed.
"As your councillor, I will fight for a Gospel Oak that values diversity and unity over division and a neighbourhood that works for everyone. I have a plan for Gospel Oak that delivers for every resident in our community."
Below is Marx's plan for Gospel Oak
1 - RESTORE WEEKLY BIN COLLECTIONS
I support reversing Labour’s cuts in waste collections to once a fortnight, restoring weekly collections for all residents, and scrapping the new £75 Garden Tax on green waste collection.
2 - FIGHT CHILD & YOUTH POVERTY
I will tackle youth poverty and deprivation, and work with Gospel Oak Action Link to provide support for young people. Parts of Gospel Oak are among the 5% most deprived areas in England.
3 - PROTECTING OUR GREEN SPACES & PUBLIC AREAS
As Gospel Oak is one of the most densely populated wards in London I will fight to protect Hampstead Heath, stop the loss of our scarce green spaces and play areas, and allow residents to use and enjoy them instead.
4 - SAFER STREETS IN GOSPEL OAK
I will campaign to fund an extra full-time Metropolitan Police officer to patrol Gospel Oak and keep our community safe. Criminals must fear prosecution.
5 - ACTION AGAINST FLY-TIPPING
I support increasing fines for fly-tipping to £400, in line with other London boroughs, to fund a clampdown on people making a mess of our streets.
