FINCHLEY ROAD BOTTLENECK REMOVED AFTER POLLUTION SOARS
TFL RELENT AS CONSERVATIVES STAND UP FOR RESIDENTS TO END GRIDLOCK -SURVEY FOUND 90% OPPOSITION
Pollution and congestion have soared in and around Finchley Road in the last year.
That’s thanks to the bottleneck that Transport for London (TfL) created outside the O2 Centre and Finchley Road station by reducing it to just one lane of general traffic. This reduced Finchley Rd to standstill and pushed traffic onto side streets. In the first four months of 2021, pollution was above legal limits 52 times: twice as often as in the same period in 2020.
The bottleneck has now been removed — thanks to residents and Camden Conservatives putting pressure on TfL to act.

As pollution has risen and the risk from Covid has fallen, Camden Council still refused to act.
Camden’s (Labour) Cabinet member for transport said that blame for the gridlock lay with drivers — despite the road being blocked!
The local Conservatives ran a survey of residents. Over 1,000 responded and 90% supported removing the bottleneck.
Conservative councillors took this up with TfL, Camden’s Cabinet member, the London Assembly, and government ministers. Residents’ responses were instrumental in showing them that residents
disagreed with Camden’s political leadership.
