Don Williams explains why he's the best local choice for South Hampstead - Camden Council By-election 1June
I have worked hard for you as your Councillor from 2002 to 2018. Living locally in Cleve Road I know our community well.As your Councillor I campaigned against anti-social noise, over-developments like 100 Avenue Road, dirty streets, high taxes, spiralling service charges & council rents, sub-standard council housing, and an unresponsive council.
Even while not being on the Council I have campaigned against the over-development at the O2 Centre and Mayor Khan imposing a fume-generating 20mph speed limit on the Finchley Road. Over the years, I’ve promoted planting more trees in South Hampstead, hiring more police to make our area safer, opening the UCL Academy, and better parking. I am dedicated to improving repairs to our local Camden estates like Sidney Boyd Court and Harben Road, rejuvenating Finchley Road’s shops, and
reducing waste so we can cut Council Tax.
Working with my local team we have kept in touch with you, via our print and email Courier. We work to protect and promote the area on issues ranging from licensing
to planning. I’ve always listened to residents’ concerns personally, via Area Action Group meetings and residents’ associations. I look forward to being your
champion on Camden Council once again.
SHAMEFUL LABOUR ABOLISH THE CURRENT O2 CENTRE
Camden Labour approved the demolition of the O2 Centre, its car park, shops, amenities, and the loss of local jobs with no serious commitment to building the family homes Camden desperately needs.
The O2 Centre will be a building site for at least 15 to 20 years, with no assurance that shops and amenities will be provided. In addition, there is No guarantee of a new bus interchange or improved tube access No guarantee of a new nursery No guarantee of the four promised new Open Spaces
Fewer than 15% of the 1,796 housing units will be suitable for families. The units will not be for sale but rented out for of two years encouraging a transient population (c.5000) rather than residents keen to put down long-term roots. This 14-acre site will have 18 blocks with 1,800 flats while the much larger King’s Cross development (62-acres) will have 1,750 flats. It's a CONCRETE JUNGLE rather than a community.
I will fight for a better plan for our area!
CRIME IN OUR COMMUNITY
Many residents, like me, are appalled by the increase in crime in our community – open drug dealing, burglary, brazen shoplifting, street muggings on the Finchley Road and aggressive begging, without any sign of police enforcement. Over the last few months, I raised these matters with our London wide Assembly Member Andrew Boff and showed him first-hand the crime problems in the area. He has responded by raising the matter at GLA meetings with the Police Commissioner, directly bypassing our dithering London Mayor Khan. Sadly, crime and policing policy is the joint responsibility of the Labour London Mayor Khan and the Labour Camden Council. Both have ignored the crime issues in South Hampstead. If I am elected as your Councillor on 1st June, I will no longer tolerate inaction by the Council and the London Mayor. Enough is enough. A vote for me will mean I will work hand in hand with GLA members and meet directly with the Police Commissioner to get more police in the area. Also, I will press Camden to allocate more funding for policing in South Hampstead.
We must have police walking our streets daily!
20MPH SPEED LIMIT ADDS JAMS & LOCAL POLLUTION
Transport for London have installed 20mph limit signs and speed cameras forcing Finchley Road into permanent gridlock - and Sadiq Khan doesn’t want you to have a say. Sadiq Khan and TfL have introduced the change without asking residents for their opinion. This is not only undemocratic but potentially unlawful. As a result, it is not a done deal, and we are fighting hard to give residents a say - and reverse it. If you think it's had a negative impact on the Finchley Road, let us know. The 20mph speed limit is causing congestion, fumes, massive speed fines and bumper-tobumper traffic - all without even asking you. We will be in touch soon with the next step. Please let us know your views via the web page www.camden.team/ FinchleyRoadSurvey
TRULY LOCAL!
I live in Cleve Rd and have done since 1996. I know our community better than the rest! The rookie Labour candidate lives in Gospel Oak. How can he understand our needs? The Green candidate is a very experienced former candidate, but she lives in Highgate. The Lib Dem one claims to be local but he only moved in very recently. He is now claiming all sorts of spurious links. But he has none at all! On 1st of June Vote for Don Williams the only true and experienced local voice for South Hampstead!
