Residents in the northern end of Frognal & Fitzjohns ward continue to be on alert to the danger of Japanese Knotweed. Sightings have been made in Spedan Close and around Redington Gardens.
The Council is monitoring the situation, working alongside the London Invasive Species Initiative. They believe the outbreaks are contained to these areas.
Camden focuses on open spaces owned and managed by the council. Private gardens are not prohibited from having Japanese Knotweed, but wil be notified that it is an offence to let it spread.
Cllrs Siobhan Baillie, Andrew Mennear and Gio Spinella are very concerned about this issue. If you spot an outbreak of Japanese Knotweed, please contact the Council at [email protected] or calling 020 7974 4444.
This issue has continued to dog the area and was raised by Tom Conti in the Daily Telegraph and the Ham & High in 2013, when he said, "Knotweed has helped Hampstead become 'The Day Of The Triffids'."
