Chalcots Update - It’s all going swimmingly well, NOT.
■ It’s been almost 6 years since the Chalcots evacuation and still there is no resolution to this painful situation.
■ Bray and Taplow have been wrapped in scaffolding but work seems to be only limping forward. A handful of new windows in void flats and a few selected ‘early-bird’ flats have been fitted but the bulk of the work has yet to commence. At this rate another 4 years will pass before Chalcots residents and those who live around in this estate, can finally breathe a sigh of fresh air and relax without being disturbed by construction.
■ Confusion remains on how the new inaccessible kitchen windows will open, how the living rooms will be heated, where the work will start from and whether the work can effectively be done without decanting the flats.
■ This mess is continually re-presented as all going to plan by Camden officers and the Cabinet Member in overall charge. Labour ward councillors have been entirely AWOL, ceding all their responsibility.
■ Residents have been exhausted by this process and deserve far better. How long can this go on? Its astounding how Labour Camden treat their tenants and leaseholders.
