From Monday, Sadiq Khan is suspending all parking spaces the length of the Finchley Road north bound, from 7am to 7pm Monday to Saturday. It means that there will be no parking on the Finchley Road during the day at all.
The changes will last until 12th March 2022: eighteen months from now! There was just very brief two-week consultation, snuck out in August. Despite the poor publicity, over 100 residents objected. Yet Sadiq Khan has ignored the concerns of local residents and charged ahead all the same.
Right now – with the logical exception of the evening rush hour – there are bays available. They are all going from Monday!
This change is wide ranging, last minute, and will impact not only local residents but businesses still recovering from the pandemic. It’s extension to Saturdays is particularly damaging and inconvenient for residents, tradespeople, and our local businesses.
We are conducting a survey to make the case that March 2022 is far too far off to review this scheme. You can view and fill in the survey online at www.bit.ly/FinchleyRoadParking
We believe that this makes no sense given the relatively low levels of traffic northbound outside of the daily commute, especially at the weekend. We all know this part of the Finchley Road is not best served by tube stations, which means local businesses are the ones that are going to suffer.
As for local residents, our concern is that this will drive traffic - and parking - off the Finchley Road into surrounding streets, causing huge issues for those of us living in the area. To rub salt in the wound,
Khan’s plan will allow parking legally in resident bays on Saturday.
Can you imagine the weekend with cars going in circles looking for somewhere to park? It does not bear thinking about in our already congested streets.
We know that certain residents’ groups such as the BAM management have objected. But these concerns have been ignored and swept away. This is a huge change for residents and businesses in the area and we want to know your views so that we can reflect them.
