Drinks Evening with Jo-Anne Nadler
Jo-Anne Nadler is a political author, commentator and campaigner with expertise in the Conservative Party. More details are on her webpage
She makes regular appearances on national television and radio, discussing contemporary politics on networks such as GB News, BBC News Channel, ITN’s 5 News, Al Jazeera, Sky and 5 Live’s Adrian Chiles Show. She has guested on a wide variety of programmes including the BBC’s Question Time, Radio 4’s Start the Week and the Today Programme and debated in public forums from the Oxford Union to the Battle of Ideas festival.
Jo-Anne has observed the Conservative Party from all angles; first as a teenage party activist, then as a communications aide working alongside David Cameron in the party’s HQ during the Major Government, and later as an elected councillor in Wandsworth where she sat on Children’s’ Services and chaired the Education Standards Committee. Jo-Anne’s inside experience has informed her subsequent work - as a professional observer of all things Conservative - both as a political reporter with the BBC and later as a freelance author and contributor to policy think tanks.
Having spent lock-down working with the Centre for Social Justice establishing their Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE) project, she is currently writing a report on political indoctrination in schools for the independent institute for civic society, Civitas, due for publication Spring 2023. Jo-Anne has worked closely with the campaign group Don’t Divide Us, a cross-sectoral grassroots response to institutional ideological conformity.
Earlier in her career Jo-Anne spent ten years with the BBC as a producer and reporter, latterly with the flagship political show ‘On the Record’, before publishing two commended books. Her memoir, Too Nice to be a Tory (Simon and Schuster 2005) combined personal insight with historic analysis to become a must-read for the last generation of Conservatives concerned to modernise the party and revive its fortunes. It was described by Boris Johnson MP as “a masterly survey of this epic period”. Her biography of William Hague was written and published while he was leader of the Conservative Party (Politicos 2000).
