Residents were outraged over Easter when Camden installed hideous orange mounds around the trees on Belsize Parade, Haverstock Hill, turning this beautiful area into a strange, plastic 'teletubby' land!'. Local Belsize Councillor Claire-Louise Leyland fought back and was able to get these removed.
She insisted that Camden consult local people and Belsize residents have been able to choose a better design - a simple band of grey flexipave will be used to border the paving stones, with planting around the trees. The new design means that Camden will be able to fulfil their duty to maintain our footways and carriageways in a safe condition and it will also ensure that the trees' roots get adequate water and the planting that people had asked to put around the trees to further beautify the area can be accommodated!
The flexipave and associated works are due to commence on Monday 15 August and will be completed that week. Claire-Louise Leyland has worked hard with residents, local businesses and Camden staff to get a good result for our area and she very much
appreciates the support that she's had from local people with this.
